L'Università Autonoma di Barcellona gioca un ruolo di primo piano nella ricerca scientifica. La UAB coordina un centro di alto profilo scientifico e tecnologico (Esfera), promuove nuovi progetti imprenditoriali, dirige e proietta la sua attività produttiva nel proprio contesto socio-economico, dove dissemina le sue competenze. L'Università è quindi un terreno fertile per i ricercatori di qualità e un centro per la diffusione di conoscenze e tecnologie. Le principali aree di ricerca comprendono le scienze ambientali e tecnologia, le nanotecnologie, la microelettronica, la scienza dei materiali e ingegneria, il computer vision, l’intelligenza artificiale, la logistica e i sistemi di trasporto intelligenti, le scienze sperimentali e fra l’altro le scienze sociali.

Recentemente, il consiglio di amministrazione della UAB ha approvato la creazione della TICAM, un distretto dell'innovazione tecnologica sulla gestione aeronautica, che mira ad essere un centro di ricerca e trasferimento tecnologico di conoscenze per lo sviluppo di modelli di simulazione performance-oriented di aeroporti come strumento per la formazione nella progettazione di procedure operative e politiche capaci di attenuare la propagazione delle perturbazioni fra i diversi processi aeroportuali.

Key staff

Miquel Angel Piera is the UAB delegate for Technical Innovation Cluster, and director of LogiSim, a recognized research group on Modeling and Simulation of Complex Systems. He is Full time Professor in the System Engineering Department at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Graduated with excellence from UAB in Computer Engineering (1988), Msc from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology in Control Engineering (1991), and he got his Phd  in 1993.He is member of the Editorial Board of 3 international journals and Editor in Chief of IJBRM. Dr Piera has been General Chair of 5 International conferences, and invited speaker in 6 international conferences. He has been nominated as Deputy Director of the UAB Engineering School and Coordinator of the Spanish CEA-IFAC research team on Modeling and Simulation. He has coordinated as IP more than 10 Spanish research projects, and more than 20 Industrial funded projects, he has also participated in some EC funded research and academic projects, such as : LOGIS MOBILE LV/B/F/PP-172.001 (2004-2006), Curriculum Development on Logistics and Supply Chain Management. 134522-LLP-1-2007-1-ESERASMUS-ECDSP

Juan José Ramos is the UAB Program Director of the Aeronautical Management Studies. He is member of LogiSim, a recognized research group on Modeling and Simulation of Complex Systems (he was coordinator of the group during the period 2005-09). He is Full time Professor in the System Engineering Department at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona since 2007. Graduated with excellence from UAB in Computer Engineering (1990),  he got his Phd  in 2003.

He has participated more than 10 Spanish research projects (one of them as IP), and more than 10 Industrial funded projects, he has also participated in some EC funded research and academic projects, such as : LOGIS MOBILE LV/B/F/PP-172.001 (2004-2006), and IP of the coordinating institution in the Curriculum Development on Logistics and Supply Chain Management. 134522-LLP-1-2007-1-ESERASMUS-ECDSP.

Miguel Antonio Mújica is working as a researcher at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He received his PhD with excellent cum laude from the Autonomous University of Barcelona.  He studied chemical engineering at Autonomous Metropolitan University of Mexico, a MSc in Operations Research in the National Autonomous University of México. He also received a Master’s in Industrial Informatics from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He has professional experience in manufacture and production planning in the cosmetic industry. His research interest focuses on optimization and modeling techniques using the Coloured Petri Nets formalism aiming to solve industrial and logistics problems. He has published in international journals and he has attended to several international conferences as author.

Roman Buil received the B.S. degree in Mathematics from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain, in 2002, the M.S. degree in industrial engineering - advanced production techniques from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, in 2004. He is currently working towards the Ph.D. degree in industrial engineering - advanced production techniques at the same University.

He is assistant teacher at the Telecommunications and Systems Engineering Department of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. His research interests include modeling and simulation methodologies, optimization techniques, production planning and decision making for production planning and logistics. He is member of LogiSim, a recognized research group on Modeling and Simulation of Complex Systems and he has been involved in industrial projects working as consultant of DLM-solutions and DLM-aeronautics.

Mercedes Narciso Farias is a lecturer at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where she obtained her PhD in 2007. She studied Systems Engineering at the University of Los Andes, Venezuela. After working several years in a private company (consultancy and development of software in direction positions), she worked as a  researcher in the Computer Science Department at the University of Los Andes. In 1998, she received her MSc in computer science from this university. She has been member of the local organizing committee of 4 National and International Conferences, Coordinator assistant of Aeronautical Management degree at UAB for 3 years. Her research areas include modeling and simulation; software engineering and artificial intelligence. Since  2003, she has been a researcher of LogiSim, a Center for Simulation and Optimization of Logistics Systems
